Our Homeschool: A Week (At A Glance) At Grace Academy

Not many people know the official name of our homeschool, it is called Grace Academy. When we filed with the state this last fall we had to have a name and this one fit perfectly for our homeschool. We chose this name for obvious reasons, namely because of the Lord's saving grace in our lives and secondly for the graces He extends to us as we live out our daily lives before him. We recognize it is only His grace that has brought us this far in our homeschool endeavors and it will be His grace that carries us through.

This of course does not mean we are immune from the same temptations all Mom's have. We do have undisciplined moments, attitude adjustments and reminders that we are very feeble people in need of a very GREAT and GRACIOUS GOD.

To order the choas that loves to reign supremely in our home, we have followed a basic homeschool schedule for a few years. We've tweeked a bit, here and there, as needed because kids change, curriculum changes, and so do the family dynamics. This has helped us tremenduously to meet the goals we have for our children.

This is our current weekly curriculum schedule (double-click on picture for larger view):

OK April, When do you run errands? Do you have some quiet time during the day (to return emails, plan, rest or read), or are you pretty much "on" from morning to night? Thanks for sharing your schedule. These are just questions I've had. Hope you are doing well!

Ok Steph, I run errands on Tuesdays except for these last few weeks b/c soccer takes us out of the house on Wed. So now we do Wedneday-errands. We just switch some school work around to other days so our school day is shorter.

Yes we do have a quiet time in the afternoon when Kayla and Carson read/look at books. I rest too. We don't do it everyday, last week we went on a bike ride instead. It's nice to have flexibility as a homeschooler. You CAN choose your schedule.

My Dad gave me good advice...he said make a goal for yourself and reward it. Getting through school is a big goal for me so I will reward myself by jumping on the computer for a bit and checking blogs etc. Sometimes I can squeeze an email or things during school if need be. Sometimes I will do it during seatwork too but mainly at night.

It's nice to have a basic schedule to refer you are not flying by the seat of our pants and missing stuff. I thrive better with a plan.

I love being flexible too. We can rearrange things to make our schedule work. Sometimes it is fun to flip-flop things to break up the monotony. Routine can get boring.

I hope that answers your questions.

That is incouraging to get on a schedule. Right now I am doing it as I feel on Monday Wednesday and Friday. With Kayla at 3 I think it is okay but as she gets older I know a schedule is important. Thank you for your post and sharing your schedule to incourage people like me. :)

That is so cool that you were able to pick out a name for your school. I am impressed with what you are doing.
Thanks for the link above, I had lost your site and was happy to see your name come up on mine so that I could find you again!
Love, JO

Crystal- I think that is wise. 3 days is plenty of time to teach what they need to learn. You really don't want to exasperate them.

Jo- Hi Again! Thanks for stopping in. It's always good to hear from you.

April, thanks for sharing your schedule. This year we are still pretty easy, just doing one kid and doing that while the other two nap, but next year as we add a couple more subjects and add another baby, I know a schedule will be more important, and I'm always interested in seeing what other people do. (How's that for a run-on sentence!)
